FILM SHOT IN: BLACK & WHITE (you would receive the "fullscreen" version)
RUNNING TIME: 94 MINUTES (MOST OTHER VERSIONS RUN 90 MINUTES OR LESS)
PICTURE QUALITY RATING: = 8 to 8.5 out of 10 GOOD to VERY GOOD (These rare films come from a variety of sources. Please do not expect modern day HD quality.)
DIRECTED BY: JOSEPH CATES
STARRING: SAL MINEO, JULIET PROWSE, JAN MURRAY, ELAINE STRITCH
BRIEF PLOT SUMMARY: SAL MINEO PLAYS A SEXUALLY DISTURBED YOUNG MAN WORKING AS A BUSBOY AT A DISCOTEQUE. HE BECOMES OBSESSED WITH A DISC JOCKEY EMPLOYEE OF THE DANCE CLUB (JULIET PROWSE). EVENTUALLY HIS PERVERTED PHONE CALLS & ACTIONS LEAD TO POLICE INTERVENTION.
COMMENTS: ***MOST COMPLETE VERSION YET WITH FULL "POOL SCENE***, THIS IS A WONDERFULLY "CHEAP", STYLISHLY SHOT LITTLE FILM MASTERPIECE. REALISTICALLY FILMED ON LOCATION IN MID-60s NEW YORK CITY!
THE CAST IS PRETTY UNBELIEVABLE: YOU HAVE SAL MINEO (once hot Hollywood property-not the case in 1965), JULIET PROWSE (famous for her dancing-not acting), JAN MURRAY (certainly more at home on a TV game show panel than the big screen) & ELAINE STRITCH (playing a lonely lesbian-is known for her work on the Broadway stage.)
As if that were not enough, the soundtrack music is superb 60s pop written by Bob Gaudio (The Four Seasons) & Al Kasha with help from pop giant Charles Callelo. The strangely beautiful title song was sung by Rita Dyson..? After all these years, they still have not released a full 94 min. Version from an original film negative!!...as far as common knowledge goes, this version from pressplayhouse is the only (full runtime) available option.
